Home Refurbishment

Home Refurbishment can be a difficult project to embark on, who will be able to do it? An Architect, an interior designer or a builder? Some people choose one of them or some try to manage all them themselves. How complicated is that?

So you have moved into a new home or you old house is looking fatigued and needs refreshing, some times the internal structures are beyond repair so all the plaster will have to come off along with the joinery, skirting boards, architraves and doors etc. So you definitely need a builder included in the homerefurbishment.

Once all the surfaces, floors walls and ceilings have been stripped then its time to think about the new for you home refurbishment. What theme, how will it match the architecture of the property, how will it blend in with your current furniture etc? There are so many questions it can drive you to distraction? Where do you start? With the investment that a home refurbishment requires you can’t afford to get it wrong so you should consider an interior designer.

Then just to complicate things even more what if a wall needs to be reconfigured or taken down or an extension can be built on. Your family has extended or your lifestyle is such that the current layout and floor plan just doesn’t work any more. Surely if your going to spend all that money and make all the mess involved in the home refurbishment then now’s the time too get the Structural Engineer and an Architectin and do the building alterations at the same time.

So how do all these professions work together and which one takes the lead in a home refurbishment and in which order? We’ll that’s a million dollar question. Either one may only want to do their niche or they may want control of the whole project and use associates for assistance. There are floors with this collaboration, Architect, Interior designer and Building Contractor. The first and most important is timing and communication. Also they all work for their own companies and have other commitments that may take more priority. They all may shift responsibility when issues could arise.

So a suggestion is to appoint a project management team to undertake the wholehome refurbishment. People associate project management with large projects such as office blocks or football stadium’s, many people may not of heard of a project manager or understand there requirement.
